Color wheel is the heart of color theory, Which was created by Sir Isaac Newton near 17th century. It is a great starting point for understanding the rules about colors.
The above image of color wheel is based on primary colors of RYB (red, yellow and blue). It demonstrates how colors work together.
You may see color wheel based on primary color of RGB (red, green and blue).
Primary hues that is red, yellow and blue respectively can not be obtained by mixing any other hues together.
The secondary hues green, violet and orange are obtained by mixing primary hues.
Red + yellow = orange
Blue + yellow = green
Red + blue = violet
Tertiary hues are combinations of primary and secondary hues.
There are six tertiary colors; red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, and red-violet.
An easy way to remember these names is to place the primary name before the other colour.
The color wheel can help artists/designers find harmonious color combinations based on the geometric relationships represented on the color wheel. Colour consultants and interior decorators rely on these rules to develop schemes that work and make rooms and spaces look visually attractive
